Sardi for Bengkulu

After 50 Years Away, Achmad Sardi Comes Home Through His Daughter’s Big Dream for Bengkulu

For me, returning to Bengkulu is not about where I live, but about creating meaning. Through my daughter, through the foundation we’ve prepared, and through a sincere spirit to build from the heart, I want to repay a debt of love I’ve never had the chance to fulfill

There’s an old saying: “No matter how far you go, your heart will always return home.” That sentiment seems to perfectly describe Drs. H. Achmad Sardi HS, M.Si.—a senior figure from Bengkulu who spent over five decades building his career outside the region. Now, through the dreams and determination he passed on to his daughter, Bengkulu is no longer just his birthplace—it’s the center of his family’s renewed dedication.

His daughter, Destita Khairilisani, has officially been elected as a senator in the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) representing Bengkulu. The news was met with heartfelt pride by her father, who had supported her journey into politics not for power or fame, but for sincere service to the people.

“Alhamdulillah, this is not just a personal victory—it’s the beginning of real service. I asked Destita to come home not to seek glory, but to help lift Bengkulu,” said Achmad Sardi during an interview with the YouTube channel @realitapostdotcom.

Destita is no stranger to international experience. She has worked across ten countries and was previously based in the United States with a highly competitive salary. But her father’s call to return and contribute to her hometown meant more than any personal gain.

“I always told my children: life is not just about personal success—it’s about the legacy you leave for others,” said Achmad Sardi, who now also serves as Chairman of the Indonesian Pensioners Association (PPI) for Bengkulu Province.

Beyond supporting his daughter’s political aspirations, Achmad Sardi has also laid the groundwork for tangible impact. He founded the Kembang Mumpung Mulia Foundation, aimed at channeling international aid directly into Bengkulu’s development—managed transparently and with integrity.

“There’s plenty of funding abroad ready to help. The problem is, we’ve lost credibility. If we’re honest, transparent, and truly work for the people, Bengkulu can thrive without begging,” he emphasized.

Destita’s victory sends a powerful message to Indonesia’s youth: don’t wait until you’re older to start caring. “Now is the time for young people to step up—not just to be seen, but to be involved in building. Don’t be spectators. Be the change,” he added.

For Achmad Sardi, returning home doesn’t always mean physically going back. Sometimes, coming home means planting the seeds of change, guiding the next generation, and making sure your love for your homeland turns into lasting action.
